Introduction:
The Department of Critical Care Medicine at Methodist Hospital and the Methodist Foundation in a joint effort with the Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking residency trained or board certified emergency medicinephysicians for our one or two-year Emergency Medicine-Critical Care Fellowship. This multidisciplinary fellowship was founded in June of 2006 to provide advanced training in cognitive and procedural skills in the area of critical care.
The fellowship is clinically centered at Methodist Hospital, an 800 bed Level I Trauma Center and regional referral center for critically-ill patients. The clinical focus of this fellowship, based on a set of successful core rotations, exposes the fellow to surgical, pulmonary, cardio-thoracic, trauma, transplant, vascular and general adult critical care. Through our affiliation with Indiana University Hospital and Wishard Memorial Hospital we are able to offer advanced exposure to trauma/surgical, pediatric, oncologic, and burn care as well as advanced training in various specialty areas (echocardiography, renal replacement, advanced airway management, anesthesia).
Goals:
Critical care deals with complex surgical and medical problems in critically ill patients. This program aims to provide the educational, clinical, and administrative resources to allow fellows to develop advanced proficiency in the management of critically ill patients, to develop the qualifications necessary to supervise critical care units, and to conduct scholarly activities in critical care. These goals are achieved through a flexible pathway that is customizable to the individual learner’s ambitions.
